Brief
Split across four levels, the client sought to unite this once disjointed property into a harmonious series of rooms. The plan, devised by Jeffreys Interiors, provides practical living solutions with a luxurious, premium feel.
Execution
The client was relocating to Scotland from Australia with their family. Jeffreys Interiors was entrusted with designing the home and overseeing its development.
Luckily, the bones of this A-listed building were in great condition, even if the style and some of the features were off. We created warmth out of the dark and spatially challenging layout by using lots of textures and pattern to reflect the client’s passions, interests and travels.
Almost all of the furniture is bespoke, designed by Charlotte James. The soft furnishings throughout unite a selection of British designers, such as Jim Thompson, House of Hackney, Elitis, James Hare, Johnstons of Elgin, Mark Alexander and Larsen Fabric. The stair runner that winds up the ornate staircase was a bespoke piece by Roger Oates. Ambient lighting anchors each room, with a selection of fittings by CTO Lighting, Porta Romana and Julian Chicester. The wallcoverings add such character, and texture, to each room. These were chosen from ranges by Jim Thomson, Tektura and Zoffany. Throughout, the flooring was installed by Total Flooring. These foundational elements set the tone for the rest of the renovation.
The bathrooms utilise the most incredibly detailed tiling from Mandarin Stone and Lusso Stone. The kitchen—a real hub in the home—is by Peden & Pringle. Their made-to-measure, entirely bespoke kitchens are made using traditional methods in their Edinburgh-based workshop. The craftsmanship is exquisite—and the dark green colourway gives it a timeless edge.
